Pupa Description

Compressed abdomen with a bowed thorax; chrome colored, with cremaster and edge of wingpads red.

Adults Description

Immediately distinguished by the heavy black forewing apex and a distinct white forewing band that is visible while butterfly is on the wing.

Habits Description

Occurs from 500 to 1,600 ms, in association with disturbed forest habitats; very occasionally found in the lowland Guanacaste forest. One of the commonest clear-winged species in Costa Rica; individuals are often seen flying across open areas or visiting a variety of garden flowers in the Meseta Central. This species is present throughout the year, but population fluctuates from abundance to rarity from month to month.
