At Costa Rica Entomological Supply (CRES), we usually have more pupae on any given export day than we have a market
for. This is necessary as it allows us to reliably meet the many requirements of our clients -- butterfly exhibitions worldwide -- under almost any circumstance. Those pupae that haven't been sold are returned to the breeders, leading to lost revenue and much frustration. To help stabilize the market throughout the year, CRES offers farm-bred, A-1 quality butterfly specimens for conservation-minded artisans that are willing to pay a little more, but want to know that their butterflies are legally farmed, posses all the requisite government permits and contribute to the well-being of rural families in the tropics.
Of the many species that CRES offers as dried material, all are common and readily farmed.
Generally speaking, these are species that are repeatedly seen while walking around the countryside. CRES does not receive rare or "spectacular" species that are highly valued by collectors. CRES does not receive or market species listed by CITES.
