USDA, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Plant Protection and Quarantine
USA-based butterfly exhibitors and importers of live insects must acquire an import license from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. It's imperative that CRES have on hand a copy of a client's valid USDA import license prior to shipping. For anyone in the United States contemplating the creation of a butterfly exhibit, the USDA should be one of the first destinations in one's fact-finding mission. Sonoran Arthropods Studies Institute
The Sonoran Arthropods Studies Institute (SASI) is a membership supported organization based in the Sonoran Desert outside Tucson, AZ. Since 1986 SASI has been dedicated to "fostering awareness, knowledge and appreciation of all nature through the study and interpretation of the vital roles arthropods play in the Sonoran Desert ecosystem." Each year SASI organizes and hosts the Invertebrates in Education and Conservation Conference. The conference provides a stimulating opportunity for insect insect zoo keepers, natural history educators and butterfly exhibitors -- among many others -- to gather and freely engage in all varieties of ideas surrounding invertebrates. http://www.sasionline.org/.
The Sat Yoga Institute
Conventional wisdom these days argues that to understand the world we must understand science: chemistry, biology, physics, genetics, psychology, economics, etc. The study of such fields may offer a good start to understanding reality, but science, while "true," cannot pretend to understand Truth. Truth cannot be reduced to logic, the rational sequencing of words and symbols to arrive at an undisputable known. Indeed, paradoxically, the more faith we place in the purity of science (and its junior partner technology) the more havoc we seemingly wreak on the world and each other. The fantastic trevails that we face, from global warming and societal dissolution to the market's demise and the imminent demise of Nature are all of our doing. As Albert Einstein quipped, "No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it." Metaphorically understood for thousands of years, the metamorphosis of the butterfly is suggesting the path that we must follow. While spirituality is often anathema to our understanding of the world, for those so inclined we offer http://www.satyogainstitute.org.
